The Wheelchair Centre on the High Seas!

The team switched their usual positions at The Wheelchair Centre for a day on the canal and became rather expert sailors (well some of us anyway!)

We boarded ship on Wednesday 4th August at 9.30am and set sail on a rather wet and gloomy looking day, our "Captains", Liam and Neil were at the helm, guided out initially by Portland Basin staff (which incidently was rather bumpy, glad it was them and not us!) and then our Captain effortlessly took over and we began our gentle meander down the canal, through some glorious scenery. 

The weather cleared and we had a beautiful afternoon lazing on the canal, navigating through some fabulous old bridges and the famous Marple Bridge Viaduct (just dont look down!) "Skipper", Christine navigated "Captain" through the incredibly narrow bridges, helpfully shouting the distances the barge was from the edge (it was discovered, that the only measurement she knows is 9 inches!) "First Mate" Shaheen took over the reins and took charge of our vessel for a little while and she definately scored 10/10 for steering the barge (she says she has never driven a boat before, but you would never know)

We moored up for a scrumptious lunch of sandwiches and home made cake, expertly baked by Neil, accompanied by lashings of tea on board and then set sail back for Portland Basin for the end of a lovely day.  Some beautiful wildlife was seen along the way, our favourite being a rather graceful Mr Heron who posed for many a photograph.
